This week your challenge is to spice up your photography by adding a prop.
A simple way to spice up or add interest to your photography is to add props to your scene. If what you have photographed is looking a bit bland, by adding a simple prop can make all the difference. Using props can help you to think differently and shoot more creatively.
The addition of a prop is an effective way of adding colour to what may have been a lifeless landscape of boring background and is a simple way of creating a strong point of interest.
You have more control of the scene by choosing what kind of props to use and where to place them in the frame. It is also a great way to explore and expand your creative side.
Anything can be used as a prop. You are only bound by your imagination. Look for objects around your home that would make interesting additions to your pictures. Maybe umbrellas, chairs, hats, frames, food, toys, mirrors, sunglasses, feathers, lollypops, basket, bicycle, these are but a few ideas. Whatever you can lay your hands on could make for a good prop.
You can also find plenty of objects in nature – flowers, leaves and twigs and rocks are terrific for using as additional elements.
The addition of a musical instrument, a basket of flowers or a book could help create a unique portrait. The use of a mirror used in conjunction with the subject or prop can create wonderful reflections and symmetry in your photo.
Last of all you can introduce props to create humour.
Now go and find some interesting props and spice up your photography. Above all remember to enjoy yourself and have fun this week. I can’t wait to see what you come up with.
